My Grandparents recycled and grew everything organicly before they were words. I was fortunate to grow up on their dairy farm. We grew everything ourselves; protein, eggs, fruits, vegetables, nuts, herbs, flowers. It wasn't a pretty garden, but it was a smart garden. Seeds or plants went where it was best for them not because it was attractive. Sunny, shady, dry. damp, etc. Once planted and started, my Granfmother did very little watering and minimal care until harvesting. On a farm there are lots of faucets that get used a lot, so it's always damp around them so that's where you would find parsley and mints. Parsley everywhere. Now parsley can be tough to grow, but not if it's happy. We had incredible parsley. When Grandfather walked by the parsley he'd grab a handful and chew it like chewing gum. It would last a long time because of the stems. Great breathe. He really liked it and if he walked through the kitchen first and Grandmother was peeling garlic. He'd swipe one and chew it with the parsley. Believe it or not the parsley neutralized the garlic smell. Why you may ask, did he do this? I asked him. He said it was good for his heart. I asked him how he knew. He didn't know, but today medical researchers have proven that parsley and and garlic are good for the heart. He lived to 93 only using home remedies. He was waiting for the water to irrigate the corn and simply took a nap. Natural food, natural remedies = longer life.
